Theatre in the Woods invites everyone to join us for Pizza and a Play on Friday,
January 11 at 6:00 p.m. at the Erika Quam Memorial Theater in Shell Lake, WI. The
selection for this month’s play reading and discussion is “Trifles”, by playwright
Susan Glaspell.
This one-act play is a murder mystery set in a turn of the century farmhouse. John
Wright is found dead in his own bed with a rope around his neck. His wife is in custody.
The local sheriff and county attorney bring in a witness to describe how he found
the body. We discover that that the men investigating the case don’t have a clue
about the world of women. While they are investigating the crime scene, the wives
wait in the kitchen. It is they who notice the “trifles” and uncover the circumstances
of this puzzling crime. This literary gem requires 2 female and 3 male readers, and
we can always double up if we have enough eager participants!
Pizza and beverages will be provided as usual. There is no admission charge, but
an optional donation towards the food will be graciously accepted.
